I have been interested in persistence-of-vision (POV) displays since I saw Accenture’s life size version in their Chicago Technology Office. I created one using an MSP430 and three 8-bit shift registers, one for each base color, red ,green, and blue. The display is made out of 8 rapidly spinning RGB LEDs. I used a magnetometer to measure the system’s RPM and matched the LED refresh frequency to the desired vertical resolution times the rounds-per-second of the system. The result is shown below.
